Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attacked Congress President Rahul Gandhi at the Congress leader's parliamentary constituency of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, where he launched a slew of developmental projects for the area. Among them, the biggest one was the announcement of an Indo-Russia joint venture to produce the AK-203 assault rifle at the Ordinance Factory Board factory located in Amethi.
Attacking Congress for the delay in procuring defence weapons, PM Modi said that UPA government did not bother about the armed forces. Modi accused the Congress of being lackadaisical regarding the army saying that "they could not even decide on the arms to be manufactured."

PM Modi stated that Amethi was the perfect example of the BJP's policy of 'Sabka saath, sabka vikas'. Taking a dig at the Gandhi family, the Prime Minister said, "Now, Amethi will not be known for a famous family but for AK 203, ‘Made in Amethi’. These rifles will help our jawans in encounters with naxals and terrorists."
Training his guns over the delay in acquisition of bulletproof jackets, PM asserted that people should remind the Congress of the delay and ask them who were the persons in the grand old party that delayed the procuring. He said, “Tall promises were made. Your local MP promised that he would ensure employment to 1,500 locals in this ordnance factory but merely 200 got jobs. Imagine those who couldn’t ensure jobs to people in Amethi are now lecturing on employment."

He also lashed out at the Opposition over the Rafale deal row, stating that the deal for the Rafale fighter jet was "bitterly opposed" by the Congress "for the sake of a commission." The PM further said, "Despite clean chits, they opposed the Rafale deal due to their own vested interests. But Rafale jets will fly soon."
Lauding Smriti Irani for her work in the Congress bastion, PM Modi said that the BJP won the hearts of the people through its work in the constituency. "Those who voted for us and those who didn’t, they are all our people. Smriti Irani was your candidate. Though we could not win, but we won your hearts," PM was quoted by ANI as saying.
Modi in his visit also unveiled several projects including a steel processing unit worth Rs 9,200 crore and an upgradation project of Amethi's bus stations and depot workshops worth Rs 496.80 crore.
